Kajsa William-Olsson — Cello
Kajsa William-Olsson has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 1995. She studied with Harro Ruijsenaars at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg and pursued chamber music studies with Mats Zetterqvist at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm/Edsberg.
A passionate chamber musician, William-Olsson is a founding member of both the VITALIS Quartet and the Hanna Quartet, with which she has toured extensively throughout Europe. She made her U.S. debut as a chamber musician at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York and is a frequent performer in Konserthuset’s chamber music series.
As a soloist, William-Olsson has appeared in concertos ranging from Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major and Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 2 to Martinu’s Cello Concerto No. 1, performed with the New York Repertory Orchestra. She has also been featured as soloist in Tan Dun’s Cello Concerto with the China National Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction, a work she later performed with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
Dedicated to teaching and mentorship, William-Olsson serves on the faculty of the MMCK Festival in Japan. She also frequently collaborates with her husband, conductor and violinist/violist Alan Gilbert.
