Harriet Krijgh — Cello

Harriet Krijgh is celebrated worldwide for her deeply expressive playing and commanding stage presence. She has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Munich Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, London Philharmonic, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

A regular guest at major international festivals, Krijgh has appeared at the Heidelberger Frühling, Grafenegg Festival, and the Schubertiade Hohenems. As Prizewinner in Residence at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2019, she performed in nearly 20 concerts and has been a cherished returning artist at the festival ever since.

A passionate chamber musician, Krijgh regularly tours with pianists Magda Amara and Lauma Skride. She is also the founder and artistic director of the annual summer festival Harriet & Friends at Burg Feistritz in Austria, now in its 13th edition in 2024.

Highlights of her 2023–24 season include performances with the Staatskapelle Weimar, Dutch Chamber Orchestra (including two appearances at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam), the Hofer Symphoniker, and a seven-concert tour with the Dutch Youth Orchestra, featuring a performance at the Musikverein in Vienna. She also returns to major recital stages such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

Her discography includes eight recordings, six of them on the Capriccio label, featuring works by Kabalevsky, Haydn, Brahms, Rachmaninov, and French composers. For Deutsche Grammophon, she has released a Vivaldi album with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and their leader Candida Thompson, and Silent Dreams (2021), a collection of lieder by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Chausson, Strauss, and Glinka.

Beginning in the 2024–25 season, Krijgh embarks on an ambitious multi-season project titled “Harriet, Bach and Friends.” This cycle of recordings on Capriccio will pair each of Bach’s cello suites with a major chamber music work reflecting the intimate spirit of her Burg Feistritz collaborations. The project will culminate in 2026–27 with live performances worldwide and the release of the complete set.

Krijgh performs on a Domenico Montagnana cello (Venice, 1723), whose scroll was crafted by Antonio Stradivari. This rare and historic instrument is generously on loan from the Prokopp Foundation.
