SCHUBERT & BRAHMS

August 23 | 6:00 pm - 7:45 pm

Warm, early works by Schubert and Brahms open and close this season’s penultimate program, providing a rich setting for the centerpiece of the evening: the world premiere—by pianist Juho Pohjonen, violinist John Storgårds, and cellist Anssi Karttunen—of a Festival-commissioned piano trio by Magnus Lindberg, hailed as “one of the major voices of 21st-century composition” by The Times.

SCHUBERT String Quartet in E Major, D. 353 (1816)

MAGNUS LINDBERG Piano Trio No. 2 (Festival Commission Made Possible by Susan and Conrad De Jong; World Premiere) (2026)

BRAHMS String Sextet in B-flat Major, Op. 18 (1859-60)

Approximate length: 1 hour and 45 minutes

Generously sponsored by Diane and Werner Grob

Magnus Lindberg’s Piano Trio No. 2 is the first of 10 commissions by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival that have been made possible by generous underwriting from Susan and Conrad De Jong.
