MOZART & SCHUMANN

For the Festival’s one-and-only Thursday evening concert this year, two brilliant musicians—violinist John Storgårds and cellist Anssi Karttunen—play stunning solo works written for them by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and Danish composer Bent Sørensen, while pianist Juho Pohjonen plays Schumann’s highly Romantic Piano Quartet in E-flat Major (written in 1842, the composer’s much-celebrated “year of chamber music”), and violinist Chad Hoopes leads Festival musicians in one of Mozart’s most remarkable chamber music works: the String Quintet in C Major, K. 515, which includes an additional viola (an instrument Mozart loved to play and to write for).
