Ran Dank — Piano
Pianist Ran Dank is widely recognized as one of the most thoughtful and engaging artists of his generation, admired for his rare combination of virtuosity and intellectual depth.
He has appeared in recital at leading venues and series across the United States and abroad, including San Francisco Performances, the Gilmore and Ravinia Festivals, Carnegie Hall’s Zankel and Weill Halls, Steinway Hall, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Kennedy Center, Town Hall, the Yale School of Music, the Phillips Collection, the Morgan Library, Portland Ovations, Pro Musica in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and many others. His performances have earned critical acclaim from The New York Times and The Washington Post.
As a concerto soloist, Mr. Dank has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Jerusalem Symphony, Valencia Symphony, and the orchestras of Portland, Eugene, Toledo, Hawaii, Kansas City, Vermont, Charleston, Phoenix, and Hilton Head, among others. He has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Michael Stern, Jahja Ling, Michael Christie, Kirill Karabits, Jun Märkl, Pinchas Zukerman, Jorge Mester, Jaime Laredo, and Ken-David Masur. His performance of Frederic Rzewski’s monumental The People United Will Never Be Defeated! at the University of Chicago was named one of the Top Ten Performances of 2017 by the Chicago Classical Review.
A committed advocate of contemporary music, Mr. Dank has championed works by Kevin Puts (Night), Tobias Picker (Keys to the City), Rzewski (The People United Will Never Be Defeated!), and William Bolcom (Twelve New Etudes). In collaboration with his wife, pianist Soyeon Kate Lee, he has premiered Frederic Rzewski’s Four Hands, Alexander Goehr’s Seven Impromptus, and Marc-André Hamelin’s Tango for piano four-hands.
The recipient of numerous honors, Mr. Dank was named to the Young Concert Artists roster in 2009, subsequently making acclaimed debuts in New York and at the Kennedy Center. He has also won top prizes at the Cleveland, Naumburg, Sydney, and Hilton Head International Piano Competitions.
