A QCD allows you to lower your taxable income while making a bigger impact. Since your donation comes from pre-tax assets, it won’t count as income, which potentially helps reduce your Medicare premiums and taxable Social Security benefits.

How It Works

You must be at least 70 ½ to make a QCD.

If you’re 73 or older, you must take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which means you have to either pay income tax OR make a tax-free donation directly to a nonprofit organization like the Festival.

You can give any amount (up to $108,000 per year, per person) from a traditional IRA to a qualified charity. (Roth IRAs don’t qualify.)

No itemizing is required—you get the tax benefits even if you take the standard deduction.
