MOZART & BRAHMS

Violinist Jennifer Frautschi and pianist Katia Skanavi play Mozart’s virtuosic B-flat Sonata for Violin and Piano—which the composer wrote for a performance he gave with a famous Italian violinist in Vienna—and both musicians feature again in Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G Minor, a work that’s especially known for its spirited final movement. To open the program, the Verona Quartet—called “outstanding” by The New York Times—premieres a Festival-commissioned quartet by Alex Paxton, who’s been hailed as “a magician of sound” by the Financial Times and whose major awards include the Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize.
