BARTÓK & RACHMANINOFF

August 19 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This thrilling program centers on piano duets by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, and György Kurtág, which are performed here by award-winning pianists Kirill Gerstein and Katia Skanavi. The duo is joined by New York Philharmonic Associate Principal Percussionist Daniel Druckman and Mike Truesdell for Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, a work that was wonderfully innovative (for its unusual instrumentation and wide range of influences) when Bartók premiered it alongside his pianist wife in 1938.

SCHUBERT Variations on an Original Theme in A-flat Major, D. 813 (1824)

BARTÓK Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, Sz. 110 (1937)

GYÖRGY KURTÁG Two Mussorgsky Transcriptions (1989)

RACHMANINOFF Symphonic Dances for Two Pianos, Op. 45 (1940)
