JEREMY DENK PLAYS BACH PARTITAS

Jeremy Denk — Piano

Jeremy Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists, acclaimed by The New York Times as “a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs.” A recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, the Avery Fisher Prize, and membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he is also a New York Times bestselling author whose memoir, Every Good Boy Does Fine (Random House, 2022), was published to universal acclaim.

In the 2024/25 season, Mr. Denk continues his long-standing collaboration with Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis, with performances at the Tsinandali Festival and Wigmore Hall, following his multi-concert artist residency at Wigmore in 2023/24. He also returns to the Lammermuir Festival for multiple appearances, including the complete Ives violin sonatas with Maria Wloszczowska and a solo recital highlighting female composers across centuries—a program he will also tour throughout the U.S. Additionally, he furthers his exploration of Bach with ongoing performances of the complete Partitas. In celebration of Charles Ives’s 150th anniversary, Nonesuch Records will release a collection of Mr. Denk’s Ives recordings later this year.

Highlights of the 2023/24 season included the world premiere of Anna Clyne’s piano concerto, written for Mr. Denk and co-commissioned by the Dallas Symphony (Fabio Luisi), City of Birmingham Symphony (Kazuki Yamada), and New Jersey Symphony (Markus Stenz). He also performed with the Antwerp Symphony under Krzysztof Urbański and appeared at the Danish String Quartet’s Series of Four Festival.

Mr. Denk has performed with leading orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and San Francisco Symphony, and has appeared multiple times at Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, and Klavierfestival Ruhr. International highlights include concerts at the Köln Philharmonie, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and Boulez Saal in Berlin, as well as collaborations with the London Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Renowned also for his writing, which critic Alex Ross has praised for its “arresting sensitivity and wit,” Mr. Denk has contributed to The New Yorker, New Republic, and The Guardian. His recordings have earned wide acclaim: his album of Mozart piano concertos was hailed by BBC Radio 3 as “urgent and essential,” while his recording of the Goldberg Variations reached No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart.
