SUMMARY:BARTÓK & RACHMANINOFF
DESCRIPTION:This thrilling program centers on piano duets by Schubert\, Rachmaninoff\, and György Kurtág\, which are performed here by award-winning pianists Kirill Gerstein and Katia Skanavi. The duo is joined by New York Philharmonic Associate Principal Percussionist Daniel Druckman and Mike Truesdell for Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion\, a work that was wonderfully innovative (for its unusual instrumentation and wide range of influences) when Bartók premiered it alongside his pianist wife in 1938.  \n  \nSCHUBERT Variations on an Original Theme in A-flat Major\, D. 813 (1824)  \nBARTÓK Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion\, Sz. 110 (1937)   \nGYÖRGY KURTÁG Two Mussorgsky Transcriptions (1989)  \nRACHMANINOFF Symphonic Dances for Two Pianos\, Op. 45 (1940)  \n  \nApproximate length: 2 hours  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Performed by\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kirill Gerstein\nRead their bio \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Katia Skanavi\nRead their bio \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Daniel Druckman\nRead their bio \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mike Truesdell\nRead their bio

SUMMARY:DOVER QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:The renowned Dover Quartet\, named by BBC Music Magazine as one of the greatest string quartets of the last 100 years\, makes its first appearance of the season on this two-work program\, which includes Mendelssohn’s last chamber music work—the passionate String Quartet in F Minor\, Op. 80\, which the composer wrote while consumed with grief over the sudden loss of his beloved sister Fanny and just two months before his own sudden death at the age of 38. The Dover also plays the less-well-known but also powerful String Quartet No. 4 by the 20th-century Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz\, who saw her reputation grow after World War II. The quartet is at once forward-looking (a stance Bacewicz was firmly dedicated to) and folkloristic.  \n  \nBACEWICZ String Quartet No. 4 (1951)  \nMENDELSSOHN String Quartet in F Minor\, Op. 80 (1847)  \n \nApproximate length: 1 hour  \nGenerously sponsored by the Lorlee and Arnold Tenenbaum Memorial Fund \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Performed by\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dover Quartet\nRead their bio
