An eerie piano trio that many consider to be 20th-century English composer Frank Bridge’s masterpiece—performed here by pianist Orion Weiss, violinist Jennifer Frautschi, and cellist Felix Fan—is juxtaposed with two considerably more lighthearted works: Beethoven’s variations (for two oboes and English horn) on Mozart’s famous Don Giovanni duet “Là ci darem la mano” and Mendelssohn’s exuberant Op. 87, the second of his two viola quintets.
