This delightful program begins with Cleveland Orchestra Principal Oboe Frank Rosenwein making his Festival debut in Italian Baroque composer (and oboe virtuoso) Giovanni Benedetto Platti’s lively yet slightly mysterious and slightly melancholy Oboe Sonata in G Minor, which also features cellist Felix Fan and New York Philharmonic harpsichordist Paolo Bordignon. Daniel Phillips joins Bordignon for the wonderfully expressive Violin Sonata No. 3 by 17th-century Bohemian-Austrian composer Heinrich von Biber—one of history’s most influential composers for the violin—and flutist Tara Helen O’Connor features in quintessential Baroque works by Bach and Telemann.
